Georgetown University New Zealand adventure program
Dear Family, Friends and Colleagues,
This December, with the help of a good friend and colleague who runs a wonderful eco-expedition/tour company down in Fiji/New Zealand/Italy, Outdoor Education at Georgetown University is offering a trip for everyone, of all ages, abilities and interests.
We will be traveling the west coast of New Zealand, walking, kayaking, biking, and rafting through diverse landscapes as well as relaxing on beaches and staying with Maori people. We have worked together to create the most diverse, varied and customizable trip to New Zealand imaginable. Anthony, one of the owners of Tamarillo Expeditions has lived and worked in New Zealand his entire life. His vast knowledge and connections to the land, the people and also running eco-tours is without comparison. I have gone on 2 adventures with him in Fiji and have never met someone as capable and passionate about giving the most to every one of his participants as Anthony.
I, on the other hand, am excited about this custom trip Anthony and I have built for young and old professionals who want the most for their time and money. I guarantee this trip will be not only the best trip you have ever gone on, but the people you will meet on this adventure, both locals and fellow adventurers, will have passion for exploration, relaxation, and one and other!!!
Georgetown University New Zealand adventure program
December 4-20, 2009
Each day of the program includes walks through a wide variety of New Zealand landscapes and environments, from alpine meadows to lowland rainforests, desolate beaches to high country farms. Some of the walks take just an hour or two to complete, while others are full-day treks to mountain summits. (For each longer walk, there are shorter options available).
Georgetown University participants will meet and hear from a range of New Zealanders, including indigenous Maori community leaders, conservationists, farmers and eco-tourism operators. There will be opportunities for participants to contribute time and effort to at least two service-learning environmental projects.
There will be opportunities along the way for participants to do other commercially-guided activities such as white-water rafting, horse-riding, scenic flights, glacier walks, sea-kayaking and bungy-jumping. (These optional activities are not included in the price.)
The group will be accommodated in a range of places, each with its own distinct personality and character, including a traditional Maori tribal centre, a high-country farm, rustic wilderness lodges and historic guesthouses. Most nights participants will share quad- and triple-rooms, with upgrades to private rooms with en-suites often available. (Participants will pay for their own upgrades.)
Most meals are included in the price. Fresh, locally-sourced ingredients will be used to highlight NZ cuisine. Participants will be invited to help with meal preparations, and in doing so will have the opportunity to learn recipes and cooking tips from the guides.
15-day program price: US$2490 per person.
Price includes:

* private vehicle transport throughout, from pick-up at Wellington Airport on day 1 to drop off at Queenstown Airport on day 15, and ferry and water-taxi tickets on days 4 & 6;
