Tool-use and Innovation in Dolphins in Western Australia

January 26, 2009

Bottlenose Dolphins spend more time using tools than any other non-human animal. What sort of tools do they use? How do they use them? These and related questions are discussed by Dr. Janet Mann. She has been studying approximately 1200 dolphins in Western Australia since 1988, tracking dolphins from birth through adulthood and has studied 3 generations of dolphins. The Shark Bay Bottlenose Dolphin Research Project is the second longest running study on dolphins or whales worldwide.
